Knitting Olympics

I joined the Yarn Harlot and her Knitting Olympics team. Team Canada - YEAH!!

What it is is this. You start a knitting project; one that is challenging to you, during the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics. She chose 2:00 as start time, whatever time zone you are in, to make things easier on us "athletes". The goal - to finish that project before/during the closing ceremonies.

I decided to knit a square baby blanket. Don't know of any babies on the way; but my friend Elizabeth has a friend who is expecting. I think the blanket will be a gift for Elizabeth to send to her friend.

I'm not a big fan of knitting baby things, so this is a challenge to me. Plus I've never knit a square before.

I have two pair of thrummed mittens to get done before then; the sooner the better. Tonight I'll wind the yarn for them - maybe. I'm not in the mood to knit them. Can you tell?

And I have to knit a sample poncho for the knitting class I'm going to be teaching. Was going to work on that at curling this afternoon. Ended up bringing my son home from school because he wasn't feeling well, and lost my knitting time. Did go riding on my horse though :)

Phew, what a mental workout!

I did it! I managed to add a couple of links, get rid of my daily posts titles, and add some buttons! What a mental workout it was though! Took me the longest time to get my brain to work things out. I am not computer savvy!!

It's a sunny day here today.

I've got my brothers socks done, ready to be delivered to him or his wife this afternoon at curling. Still haven't started the thrummed mittens - just not in the mood - but I know I have to get to work on them. Maybe I'll ball up the yarn after I get typing this?

We bought a bread maker last week. Made three loafs of bread, and did not enjoy a single one of them. The sides of it were hard, too hard to comfortably eat. So yesterday that bread machine went back to the store, and I spent a little more money and got another one. Made a loaf in that machine last night, and it's MUCH better! Have to get another loaf going soon. The kids have requested french toast for supper; and that needs homemade bread.

Knitting. Have a sock for me to knit; that's my project for working on at curling this afternoon. Have 2 pair of thrummed mittens to knit. And I started trying to crochet a fly mask for Dee. (the horse) I'm not a crocheter!!

Have a good day!

Mary Anne, are you proud of me?? :)

I'm such a computer dummy

I've been trying since yesterday to add a button to my sidebar. Can't do it!!
Grrrrr

Mary Anne - HELP! :)

Not much knitting going on right now. Between projects.

We bought a new horse :) Her name is Dee. She's a appaloosa. Here is a picture of Katie on her. In our backyard, in January, with no snow! (mind you, we did get snow after this picture was taken - but it's supposed to rain today)

Well, no rain yet, but it's certainly getting windy out there!

I managed to change the look of my blog; but not much else. Seems I have to set up a photobucket account, and I'm too brain dead to do that today. (I typed "bring dead" - see what I mean!) Maybe tomorrow, when the kids aren't around to bug me!

Monday, January 9

It's Monday again

Monday is a nice day, in a way. The kids go back to school, I get time home alone, all is supposed to be good. Today I was home alone for about an hour. Got a load of laundry washed, and a load dried in that time. Not much "me" stuff happening at all.

I'm still working on my brothers socks. The final sock is not growing very quickly. I'll take it to Elizabeths house to work on tonight, it should grow there - I hope. Unless we get busy doing her scrapbooking stuff instead.

I have also cast on a slipper for me. And have a pair of ear warmers to knit. And a pair to get in the mail.

I'm hungry today. Just don't know what I want to eat. So I'm nibbling - not good for the waist line at all!

My Mom gave me a step counter the other day. Not sure why, but she did. It says that I've done 4344 steps so far today. I'm sure it must be more. But, I'll trust it at it's count, and keep track of my steps just for the fun of it. It's cold and damp today, so I'm not going for my walk.

Pretty boring post today, sorry. That's my life - boring

What's New??

This morning I finished off one sock of a pair for me. Now I've put that yarn aside, and will finish my brothers socks before I work on mine anymore. It was a self-patterning yarn, and I just HAD to see how the pattern was going to work up. Besides, I can't decide if I should make paternal or faternal twins :) (that comment confused my hubby so much!)

Had a food bank board meeting today. I'm the new emergency contact person. If for some reason someone has no food, they can contact me, and I can get them some food. What a feeling of authority :)

Hubby is curling this weekend. So far they have lost their games. Tonight they go out for a roast beef supper, then curl shortly after that. The important thing is that they are having fun. I hope they enjoy their supper. It's being catered by the Ladies Aux. of the fire dept; and I'm usually one of the ones helping to make/serve the food. It's strange not to be there helping. But, strange in a good way.

I did knit a few finger puppets the other day. Time to get working on them again. But not as steadily as before, at least I don't think so.

I found an online pattern for a square baby blanket. It's been calling me to make it. I don't know anyone having a baby. Well, my friends sister is having a baby; could make it for her I suppose - except that I don't know her. But I just want to try the pattern. Can't try it until brothers socks are done though!

Decided to knit myself slippers with the yarn that I got for Christmas. Dyed it various shades of red, with a little blue the other night. It didn't turn out quite the way I wanted it to, but it still looks OK. The pattern is in Socks, Socks, Socks. Special Occasion Slippers.

Oh, Mary Anne, Troy has claimed the sweater, despite the fact that it's a bit too big for him. You almost got it!!

Bleh

It's one of those days. I think I have to admit defeat and say that I have the flu. YUCK! I was so tired I went to be at 8:30 last night.

Woke up this morning with my tummy feeling like I did a whole bunch of sit-ups last night. And let me guarantee you, I DID NOT do a bunch of sit-ups last night.

And my fingers don't work. Left and right are reversed. I've had to fix up so many typing mistakes!

Hope everyone is having a better day than me!

Titles

Blog titles, why are they so hard for me to come up with??? I just can't seem to come up with really unique and creative ones. Oh well.

The kids and I have to go into town later and pick up Troy's meds. It's sounds like going into town is a big trip; all 3 minutes or so that it'll take :)

We'll be stopping at the grocery store on the way to the drugstore. I need some koolaid. Really really really need it! Why? Why to dye yarn of course! :) I was given some nice cotton yarn for Christmas. I've been thinking about what I should make with it. Today inspiration hit. I'll dye it, then knit myself some slippers with it. It's cotton, it shouldn't wear out too quickly. And I think I'll have enough yarn for 2 pair.

I've been thinking for years of making a bunch of slippers to have in a basket in our entry way. It's going to happen this year! I have 2 pair ready to be sewn up. And I have a simple pattern that I can knit a pair of in 2 evenings. Something besides socks to work on. I gave my friend Elizabeth and her family a bunch of knit slippers as a house warming gift. She says her girls wear them upstairs, and they tend to stay up there :)

I finished my hubby's socks this morning. He'll be wearing them this weekend as he curls in a bonspeil. I sure hope they bring him luck!

I took finger puppets to work on in the library this afternoon. Wanted something easy to work on.

Tonight I have to cast on my brothers second sock. Or my first sock. Or maybe both. Can't remember what is on TV tonight that I watch. I'm anxious to start mine; it's a self-patterning yarn - can't wait to see the pattern.

New Years Resolutions

I figure why make them, that's just setting myself up for failure. :) So, I don't make any, I just do the best that I can each year.

So far this year I have finished one sock for my hubby, and one sock for my brother. Now I've got to start my brothers second sock, and finish the second one for my hubby.

Then I have yarn for 3 pair for me lined up to knit. The tough part will be deciding which ones to do first.

I still have one thrummed mitten to knit for our daughter. And she said she'd like a pair of knit socks too. We'll see.

New Years Eve, at about 3:15 in the morning we were woken up by sounds of our ponies in the front yard. Yesterday morning we got up at 8:30, and they were out. Don't think they were out for long though. Our solar powered battery for the electric fence is dying in the night. They figure out that's not working, and escape. So now they are spending nights locked in the barn. I'll let them out when I get home after work at lunchtime today, and they'll be out until 6ish. Only allowed out when we are around to watch them!

Flint and I went for a walk (and he ran) at the park this morning. Found a nice wool sweater while we were there. Well, Flint found it. He ran and ran and ran with it in his mouth for about 10 minutes or so. We brought it home, and will find a nice home for it. Northern Apparel is the brand name, size medium. Possibly smaller, it looks felted a bit. Hey, Mary Anne, what size do you wear?

And now I'm off to the wonderful world of housework. At least the kids are back in school now, so I have relative peace while I'm doing it :)

Happy Day!

Strange thing happened at work today. Last night I had a dream that I opened a bakery/coffee shop, selling cakes, cookies, etc that I baked. In real life this is what happened. For Christmas I gave a lot of baked goodies to teachers, PSA's, etc at the school. Two of those folks told me today that I should open a bakery selling my cakes, they were soo good. Wonder if it would be successful?
