It's Friday

Bet that title didn't surprise anyone :)

Troy is home again today. He probably could have gone to school, but he's still a tiny bit feverish, so I decided to keep him home.

And since Dan is out of town working today, that means I have no one to watch him at lunchtime today. Ahhh, means I need to miss a day of work. Boohoo. It's going to be an inside day today anyway; the windchill is too low for the kids to be outside playing. And inside days they can't do with less supervisors than outside days.

We're doing housework; he's been sweeping the floors for me.

This afternoon I've got a friend coming over to discuss me selling things on eBay for her. Been a while since I've listed anything, so I had to go online and see what all the fees were.

Since it's Friday, one of the things that I look forward to all week happens today. Miss Woolly Knits updates her blog. I look forward to it all week, honestly.

It's Thursday

Troy is home sick again today. Poor kid, had a fever of 102 last night. Still feeling pretty tired and hot today. Wants me to sit beside him, so sit beside him I shall.
And work on thrummed mittens - or a 2nd sock. I'm more in the mood to work on the sock than the mittens. But the mittens are an order. Have to keep telling myself that!
We didn't get as much snow as they were predicting for us. But now they are saying we are supposed to have flurries all day today. Sorry Mary Anne! I'm trying to send it your way; honest!!
Off to tend to the boy.

Added this:
The socks won out. Started the second sock. I'm using some of the self-patterning sock yarn. And the two socks are not going to match. I was going to make them match, but had to "waste" about 3 miles of sock yarn to find the repeat where I cast one. Well, not quite 3 miles, but a lot. Couldn't see that much yarn not being used. So I decided to have non-matching socks.

Did I mention that I was looking for an inside rabbit cage for the bunny in one of the classes at the school? Well, I am. I'm helping the teacher try to track a cage down. And I think I found one; will be going to check it out tonight. Little Guchi spends his time, when he is not out hopping around the classroom, in a cardboard box. Standing on his hind feet trying to see what the kids are doing. He's such a cute little bunny. I am trying to rememer to take him a little bit of hay today.

Wednesday, January 25

It's Wednesday.

Anyone notice a trend here? Three days in a row that I've posted! That must be a record for me!

I had plans for today. This is my afternoon to volunteer in the school library. Nope. Son came home from school sick this morning. So he's flaked out on the sofa watching Hose Hounds. I usually knit on finger puppets in the library, so I've done a few of them this afternoon.

Last night I finished off the earwarmers. They are packaged up, ready to get put in the mail on Friday.

Now to get my fingers busy on the thrummed mittens. I need someone to make the thrumms for me; that is the part of the process that I don't like. And my kids are no help. One loses interest after he makes 3 thrumms, and the other makes them the right size, then they start getting thicker and thicker and thicker.

Thought of starting the sample poncho for the knitting class. Discovered that my 9mm round needle has somehow gotten broken. So have to wait for the craft shop to get the needles in. Besides, I really need to get those darn mittens finished!

At the risk of hearing Mary Anne's wrath - the weather man is calling for more snow for us again tonight. Sounds like we are supposed to get quite a bit, and some wind. Possibly a snow day tomorrow?? And that's all I'm going to say about snow.

I'm going to be knitting a pair of socks for Mary Anne. I'm so happy that she is going to let me do them for her. She's been such a great friend, and she deserves to have the yarn she wants to be socks to be made into socks for her.

This is what I am making for the Kniting Olympics. I'm not a fan of knitting baby things. Never done a blanket like this before. So it'll be a challenge to me.

It's Tuesday

And it's been "one of those days". I have known, and remembered, since last week that I had a dentist appt this morning at 10:30. So, at 10:35 why was the dentists office calling me to see where I was?? Cause I forgot! Despite telling someone at 9:45 that I had to go to the dentist! What a scatter brain I can be!! This is why I have a PDA, 2 calendars and a note book!!

Last night I knit on a pair of earwarmers that I am making. I should finish them tonight, then I'll have 2 pair of earwamers to mail out to two different folks at the end of the week. One pair going to BC, the other pair going to another part of NS. I did a contest on a bulletin board that I belong to, the winner gets earwarmers to wear when they go out horseback riding in the winter.

Noticed something 'unique' today. Kids are fussy! The school has a mitten box, and kids are welcome to take mittens out of the box to wear if they forget to bring some from home, or if theirs get wet. Well, kids won't take any two mittens; they HAVE to match. And there aren't that many matching pairs in the box. A small portion of my brain is telling me to knit mittens to put in the box; knit until next winter, then donate a whole bunch of mittens. Use a big ball of one color for the main color, and various colors for stripes, so that if at least the main color matches, they should be OK to wear.

We had our first real snow of the winter yesterday. Got about 10 inches of snow in about 10 hours. Nice wet packy snow. The kids had snowballs and snowmen all over the playground at lunchtime. They had fun! We have a big snowman in our front yard, but he has lost his head. Sadly it's calling for rain tonight.

guess that's it for now

It's Monday

You know how I can tell? It's quiet in my house, the kids have gone to school and hubby has gone to work :)

So far today I've gotten a load of laundry washed, and one coat of paint put on a door. All that and it's only 9:40! Oh of course I did all the regular stuff like breakfast, make lunches, feed the dog, get the kids out the door to get one the bus, have my breakfast, have some coffee, play a computer game for a bit, guess that's it.

I have a pair of thrummed mittens on the go. Ready to take the sts off for the thumb. My goal is to have this pair done by the end of the week. I'll take them to crafting night with me tonight; might get some work done on them there.

Tonight I go to shelf at the food bank. Can't remember for sure what time it is though; I'm thinking 6:30. I'll have to stop by later on and take a peek at the schedule. Today we get a delivery in from the food bank in the city; so that means there will be quite a bit for us to do tonight. Plus I have a laundry basket full of food from our church to take in.

Had to go out for a bit, I'm back now. Funny that I was typing about the food bank when the phone rang. I needed to go give my "emergency contact" keys to the people who are meeting the truck from the city; the two sets of keys that are supposed to be at a third office for them to use are both signed out and not returned. Guess what will be brought up at our next meeting?

Now, can I remember what I was going to type? Nope! So I guess I'll say "see ya" for now.

Knitting Olympics

I joined the Yarn Harlot and her Knitting Olympics team. Team Canada - YEAH!!

What it is is this. You start a knitting project; one that is challenging to you, during the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics. She chose 2:00 as start time, whatever time zone you are in, to make things easier on us "athletes". The goal - to finish that project before/during the closing ceremonies.

I decided to knit a square baby blanket. Don't know of any babies on the way; but my friend Elizabeth has a friend who is expecting. I think the blanket will be a gift for Elizabeth to send to her friend.

I'm not a big fan of knitting baby things, so this is a challenge to me. Plus I've never knit a square before.

I have two pair of thrummed mittens to get done before then; the sooner the better. Tonight I'll wind the yarn for them - maybe. I'm not in the mood to knit them. Can you tell?

And I have to knit a sample poncho for the knitting class I'm going to be teaching. Was going to work on that at curling this afternoon. Ended up bringing my son home from school because he wasn't feeling well, and lost my knitting time. Did go riding on my horse though :)

Phew, what a mental workout!

I did it! I managed to add a couple of links, get rid of my daily posts titles, and add some buttons! What a mental workout it was though! Took me the longest time to get my brain to work things out. I am not computer savvy!!

It's a sunny day here today.

I've got my brothers socks done, ready to be delivered to him or his wife this afternoon at curling. Still haven't started the thrummed mittens - just not in the mood - but I know I have to get to work on them. Maybe I'll ball up the yarn after I get typing this?

We bought a bread maker last week. Made three loafs of bread, and did not enjoy a single one of them. The sides of it were hard, too hard to comfortably eat. So yesterday that bread machine went back to the store, and I spent a little more money and got another one. Made a loaf in that machine last night, and it's MUCH better! Have to get another loaf going soon. The kids have requested french toast for supper; and that needs homemade bread.

Knitting. Have a sock for me to knit; that's my project for working on at curling this afternoon. Have 2 pair of thrummed mittens to knit. And I started trying to crochet a fly mask for Dee. (the horse) I'm not a crocheter!!

Have a good day!

Mary Anne, are you proud of me?? :)

Wednesday, January 18

I'm such a computer dummy

I've been trying since yesterday to add a button to my sidebar. Can't do it!!
Grrrrr

Mary Anne - HELP! :)

Not much knitting going on right now. Between projects.

We bought a new horse :) Her name is Dee. She's a appaloosa. Here is a picture of Katie on her. In our backyard, in January, with no snow! (mind you, we did get snow after this picture was taken - but it's supposed to rain today)

Well, no rain yet, but it's certainly getting windy out there!

I managed to change the look of my blog; but not much else. Seems I have to set up a photobucket account, and I'm too brain dead to do that today. (I typed "bring dead" - see what I mean!) Maybe tomorrow, when the kids aren't around to bug me!

Monday, January 9

It's Monday again

Monday is a nice day, in a way. The kids go back to school, I get time home alone, all is supposed to be good. Today I was home alone for about an hour. Got a load of laundry washed, and a load dried in that time. Not much "me" stuff happening at all.

I'm still working on my brothers socks. The final sock is not growing very quickly. I'll take it to Elizabeths house to work on tonight, it should grow there - I hope. Unless we get busy doing her scrapbooking stuff instead.

I have also cast on a slipper for me. And have a pair of ear warmers to knit. And a pair to get in the mail.

I'm hungry today. Just don't know what I want to eat. So I'm nibbling - not good for the waist line at all!

My Mom gave me a step counter the other day. Not sure why, but she did. It says that I've done 4344 steps so far today. I'm sure it must be more. But, I'll trust it at it's count, and keep track of my steps just for the fun of it. It's cold and damp today, so I'm not going for my walk.

Pretty boring post today, sorry. That's my life - boring

Saturday, January 7

What's New??

This morning I finished off one sock of a pair for me. Now I've put that yarn aside, and will finish my brothers socks before I work on mine anymore. It was a self-patterning yarn, and I just HAD to see how the pattern was going to work up. Besides, I can't decide if I should make paternal or faternal twins :) (that comment confused my hubby so much!)

Had a food bank board meeting today. I'm the new emergency contact person. If for some reason someone has no food, they can contact me, and I can get them some food. What a feeling of authority :)

Hubby is curling this weekend. So far they have lost their games. Tonight they go out for a roast beef supper, then curl shortly after that. The important thing is that they are having fun. I hope they enjoy their supper. It's being catered by the Ladies Aux. of the fire dept; and I'm usually one of the ones helping to make/serve the food. It's strange not to be there helping. But, strange in a good way.

I did knit a few finger puppets the other day. Time to get working on them again. But not as steadily as before, at least I don't think so.

I found an online pattern for a square baby blanket. It's been calling me to make it. I don't know anyone having a baby. Well, my friends sister is having a baby; could make it for her I suppose - except that I don't know her. But I just want to try the pattern. Can't try it until brothers socks are done though!

Decided to knit myself slippers with the yarn that I got for Christmas. Dyed it various shades of red, with a little blue the other night. It didn't turn out quite the way I wanted it to, but it still looks OK. The pattern is in Socks, Socks, Socks. Special Occasion Slippers.

Oh, Mary Anne, Troy has claimed the sweater, despite the fact that it's a bit too big for him. You almost got it!!
